Here’s a suggestion (actually 2) on how to approach this. First, you can start by going through a 6-week preparation period whereby you start with eliminating all drinks other than water.  Then after 2 weeks of maintaining this action, eliminate the unhealthiest food that you’re consuming on a regular basis – usually that will be at least once per day, sometimes once every 2 days – and replace it with a healthy food, namely a fruit or vegetable. You can use a different fruit or vegetable each day, but you need to be sure you aren’t consuming the item that’s putting on the extra weight. Then after 2 more weeks, all this time you’ve been drinking only water, and having eliminated your first ‘diet vice’ replaced with a fruit or vegetable, then find the next most unhealthy food that you’re consuming – and it may be a broader ID like breads – and replace it again the same way as you’re first one.  Do this for the remaining 2 weeks.

If you can stick with this 6 week plan, then maybe you’re ready to do a cleanse.

However, and this is suggestion #2: I would approach your cleanse with a shorter duration – say 3-4 days, rather than 21 days. Again, work up to a longer cleanse so you know what you’re going to be in for, and 3-4 days would certainly give you a peek at what’s to come. Not to mention that it will still provide benefit, especially if you do a cleanse made for a 3-4 day stretch.

The real benefit long-term is the elimination of 2 most unhealthy foods that are contributing negatively to your weight and health, and the elimination of unhealthy liquids that are probably doing the same. These actions alone have resulted in a major improvement in weight loss and health. But a cleanse will take it a step further.

Bottom line: any changes in your diet, even ones that will last temporarily, should be approached with some caution.  Research it, be sure you know what you’re getting into, and be prepared for some difficult physical changes that may result.  And for the long-term, make your diet and weight loss efforts be about making one small change at a time until you build a healthy and permanently fit lifestyle.

Ya think?

So what they learned is that if you teach kids about healthy eating habits and exercise and you make those foods available for them and GET RID of the junk; i.e. Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Snicker’s bars (w/ or without caffiene aka Snicker’s Charged and it’s 60 MG of Caffiene!) that kids lose weight? well knock me over with a feather!

Our world is really messed up. I got this email from a friend the other day:

Corporate America owns chain restaurants. Moms and Pops own smaller restaurants. The restaurants enter into contracts with soda manufacturers who pay out (sometimes large incentive amounts) to the restaurants to procure exclusive soda sales rights. The restaurants sell soda at prices cheaper than milk or even tea in some cases. The restaurants sell soda in larger servings than those accorded other drinks. The restaurants will provide free re-fills for the sodas, but not for the healthier alternatives, i.e. milk. This is especially problematic for parents on a budget.

Thus, their children end of being served larger quantities of the soda for a cheaper price, effectively “habitizing” the children to drink soda in rediculous quantities at an earlier age. My kids were charged $2.50 per glass of milk at a recent lunch. They each had two glasses. That is $20 for milk at lunch. Unlimited soda would have cost $5. The lunch for the four kids cost $24.00, excluding the drinks.

Lunch with soda: $29
Lunch with milk:$44
Tip with soda $6
Tip with milk $9
$35 gross cost of lunch with soda
$53 gross cost of lunch with milk
$18 increase in the cost of a lunch for four kids at a mid range restaurant just to avoid having the kids consume soda. That is an increase of over 50% to avoid having your kids poisoned by soda.

Dangerous diet products are causing problems amongst dieters who seek an easy solution. Everything from headaches, stomach aches, and illness have been reported from people using them. Beth Fisher, a spokeswoman for the Kentucky Department for Public Health, said the products were sold in Louisville, Owensboro and Middlesboro, as well as 14 other states. It was not sold in Indiana.

More than 80% of people believe junk food advertising is making it difficult to feed children a healthy diet, according to research. The survey for consumer watchdog Which? found 84% of consumers want the Government to do more to control the marketing of unhealthy food to children. The survey also revealed 83% think irresponsible advertising is making it harder to encourage children to eat healthy food.

Which? said rules governing junk food advertising on the internet and on packaging were weak or non-existent, while current regulations for television advertising did not apply to the programmes most watched by children. A Bill to introduce robust restrictions on unhealthy food advertising to children is due for its second reading in Parliament next week. It aims to introduce a 9pm watershed for junk food advertising and protect children from other forms of marketing. Read on…

Final note: This is not an issue that should be taken up by the government, but instead an effort should be made to get “dieters” off their duff and doing something other than sitting.  While ads may be a problem, the true problem is the quality of foods that are being made and allowed on TV.  These foods should be banned. Let the ads go on, just get rid of these ridiculously unhealthy foods, period.

The first thing you have to remember is that your life has probably changed to a degree that you do not realize. From single to married, to children, to advancement at work, it comes gradually and you seem to cope. But the truth is it all builds up. Fad Diets – Weight Loss Failure. Medifast for weight loss help

The problem with fad diets as the name suggests is that they seem to be ‘the thing to do’ now, yet lose their appeal after a few short days. With so many people so quick to jump on the bandwagon of a new diet because of the lure of the author’s credentials, the name, or the endorsement given by prominent celebrities, it’s not difficult to see why weight loss failure is the result. Not that diets with those qualities are necessarily bad (sorry, this author’s diet plan has been endorsed by some very credible doctors and well-known people, too!), but the problem most-often lies with the plan itself.

The first question you have to ask is, ‘is this going to be something I’m going to stick with for the rest of my life?’ If you can honestly answer yes, then there’s hope. Maybe you won’t know if you can stick with it permanently, but you’ve got to realize that change is mandatory – if you don’t, then your weight or your health won’t either.  So the next question should be, ‘can I follow the plan as it’s presented?’  Most diet plans provide a meal plan that may be healthy, but ignore the fact that changing from one way of eating today to an entirely new way of eating tomorrow does not give the dieter a fair chance to make those changes permanent. Change must be a one-step-at-a-time approach to give you time to make a habit out of those things that need to stay with you for good.
